Redspot Awards

6 March2008

Wrexham Brymbo Squash Club junior Emily Jones has won the Welsh Open title with a stunning victory in the final of the girls under-13s in Cardiff - a major European Grand Prix ranking event.

Emily faced fierce opposition from over 230 top players from 16 different countries across the world, to carry off this prestigious crown and without dropping a game throughout the competition.

In the tough decider, Emily beat the Scotland number one Kirstie Lobban in straight games. Emily receives additional coaching as part of the North Wales Stars Academy and her victory was accompanied by fellow Stars Academy member Alex Pendleton who won the boys under-13s title.

Hannah Davies also from our Squash Club played tremedously well to get to the runner-up place in the final of the under-15s competition. Hannah remains the number one ranked player for her age in Wales.

In April 2008, coaches at the Club agreed that all juniors and their parents should be made aware of our Acceptable Behaviour Code. This highlights the importance of discipline necessary for everyone to enjoy their squash in safety.
